An travel entry that went so quick I nearly forgot about.
I usually maintain my short travel vlogs as a written piece outside of my content. It’s easy to record stuff in the moment but truly talking about it is a different thing.
Let me paint the picture for you for this random and spontaneous one day trip to Spain. I almost forgot to talk about the experience because it was such a quick one.
Since it was only one day, the purpose was simple the World Cup final. Booking a trip a few days before means we got hit with a high ass flight price, and for a place like Spain I’d usually never overpay.
However, with a rare occurence of the final being so close to the UK, it had to be done.

Day 1
An afternoon flight meant an early morning trip to the airport. Now I nearly messed up not finding my passport and I was set on not being able to go, realising if it’s not meant to be then it’s not meant to be.
After some lowkey stress, I found that bugger and we headed off. Nothing unusual as I’m used to Luton airport, a place I see way too often.
Looking around, it’s clearly tourist season especially with kids off school. Now a place like Palma meant there were a lot of families and kids on the plane, but a quick nap for a few hours blocked out the noise.
Now time was of the essence.
We had to get from the airport to our accomodation, and quickly journey to this open field called Son Fusteret where they had 3 giant screens to show the final.
With only a few hours, it was evident how busy it was going to be as everyone was out in full support of Spain, with a few Argentinian fans dotted around.
After waiting ages for an Uber and seeing hella people grab a taxi, it seemed like we got there at just the perfect time.
Now I’ve never been to a concert or a large game but seeing a giant crowd had me thinking it would be some overwhelming environment. While it seemed like that, I can’t say it was bad as I truly felt Spanish throughout the whole time.
It had us thinking that if this was the UK, there would be mess and alcohol everywhere, but it was a controlled environment with a mix of different people. It’s a place that I thought we’d feel out of place in, but it seemed like we belonged.
Now I called it being a tough game with extra time, but the close calls from Spain and the dirty play from Argentina made it hella entertaining.
I just knew if Spain were to win, it would be a lit night.
Fast forward hours later, yeah we had aches from standing for hours in 35 degree heat, but the environment made it so worth it. To think I nearly missed this too.
The views, the celebration and the people made it the perfect place to watch and celebrate a big win, making me feel Spanish for that day.
Day 2
We went into the next day (post 12am) fully embracing the celebrations with other locals. While there were a few tourists like us, it didn’t matter, as we all celebrated the win as one.
Hours of road closures, fireworks and people going insane, it was unlike anything I’ve seen.
We firmed the late night and it made me regret not staying long to truly explore Palma.
They say small doses and quick experiences can often be enough compared to big ones and overstaying in a place. This was one of those, where then experience was just enough for an event rather than exploring the place.
We felt true contentment witnessing the final with the deserved country taking the win.
Old me would have been depressed and reminiscing but the flight back had us truly being grateful for experiencing a movie.
After 4 months of not travelling either, this was the thing I needed to get back in and used to being out of my routine, especially after a cut and having such a focus on my learning and content.
After landing back, people were like “how did you know Spain would win?”.
And the beauty of it is we took the leap and even if they lost, we got to watch it with locals in real time. Spain winning was just the icing on the cake for the quick trip.

While this was my second time in Spain, I used to always sleep on this place because of how close it was to the UK and how tourist like it seemed. Seeing a lot of UK people visit in general makes me feel like it’s a place I don’t want to visit.
That changed quickly though when I went to Granada and Malaga nearly two years ago.
Great food, great weather and a balance between Granada (like a mini Morocco) with Malaga meant I truly experienced different sides to Spain.
I still have the giants of Barcelona and Madrid to visit, but that's a pending trip.
I always learn something new and come across great people, and even though this trip was truly a blink, it was a quick experience that won’t be replicated anytime soon.
In this busy life, take that spontaneous trip and make that dumb decision. You’ll end up experiencing greatness without regrets.
